Problem:

Significant erosion on the tips of the diffuser vanes.

The Arnolds Solution:

To use ARC 897 and mesh gauze to repair badly eroded vanes.  Apply ARC 855 brush-able resurfacing composite for erosion and corrosion control.

Method:

A supporting bar was welded across the end of the vanes to allow the vane to be rebuilt back to its original position. The item was shot blasted to SA 2.5 and profile measured 98 microns.  The diffuser was then solvent washed with Chesterton 204 solvent cleaner.  The vane tip was then overlaid with mesh gauze coated with ARC 897.  The impeller was then coated with ARC 855 to protect the diffuser from any further damage.

Benefit:

The repair was made at 25% of new item cost.
